The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved Amazon Leo’s acquisition of Globalstar in a deal valued at US$11.5 billion.
The acquisition gives Amazon access to Globalstar’s two dozen satellites, as well as its spectrum for mobile satellite communications.
The FCC said these assets will support Amazon Leo’s entry into the direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity market and enable the satellite operator to offer both fixed and mobile services.
