In its report “Vision 2040: The Economic Benefits of 6G,” the GSMA warned that limited spectrum availability for 6G deployment could reduce the technology’s potential economic benefits.
The study said that at least 2 GHz of mid-band spectrum will be needed by 2030, including capacity in the upper portion of the 6 GHz band, as well as access to the 600 MHz band.
The GSMA expects mid-band spectrum to account for around 70% of 6G’s total economic contribution, estimated at US$1.24 trillion, while low-band frequencies will account for approximately 25%, enabling coverage indoors and in rural areas.
