Control Office arrested entrepreneur for pirate TV practices

Upon the request of the Communications and Transport Secretariat (SCT), on May 10th, Jorge Belmonte Rosales was arrested by the General Prosecution Office of the Republic (PGR) for alleged forgery of official documents of the SCT. The said alteration aimed at getting the operations of Sistemas de Cable Mexicano in Aguascalientes.

In January, the National Chamber for the Cable TV Industry (Canitec) expelled Belmonte Rosales upon the agreement of the Board, as he was being scrutinized for activities contrary to the healthy development of cable telecoms.

For Canitec, unauthorized companies for cable TV offering the service illegally generate losses for US$ 250 million a year for the sector. The entity considers that almost 30% of the three million cable TV users use pirate services.
