Movistar launched the GPS localization service in Peru

Telefónica Móviles became the first company in the country to offer GPS technology localization service in its Movistar cell phones. The MGPS service allows the localization in real time of a mobile in connection to the CDMA 1x network. The location can be detected between two Movistar cell phones or through Internet. The result of the search is the display of the map with the location of the cell phone and the address in which it is placed.

The company will soon incorporate an application that will allow, only by pushing a button, to send the location of the cell phone immediately to an emergency central office in case an accident occurs. In this first phase of launch, the MGPS personal localization services will be available in cell phone devices with multimedia capacity and that support GPS technology.
