Digicel begins to offer mobile telephony

The Irish mobile telephone operator, subsidiary of the Digicel Group, made official the launching of Digicel Haití, the first operator with GSM technology throughout the country.  The Company initiated its operation with an aggressive proposal that aims to steal clients from its competitors: it will give free cells to those users that opt for Digicel`s proposal and cancel the contracts with their current companies. At the moment, Haiti with some 8 million inhabitants, has some 400,000 telephone lines, between fixed and mobile. Within the cell market: Haitel, Comcel and Rectel, subsidiary of Teleco operate with CDMA and TDMA networks. In an alliance with OneFone, the local subsidiary of the Haitian GB Group, the Irish company will develop its growth and expansion strategies.
