Ecuador?s broadband is the most expensive of the region

Ecuador’s broadband Internet service is the most expensive within The Andean Community of Nations (CAN), according to figures from the National Telecommunications Secretariat (SENATEL). While that the broadband penetration in the country is of 0.20% (26,786 users), in Venezuela, it reaches 1.3% (357.843 users) and in Peru, it registers 1.2% (327,982 subscribers). Likewise, the rate in Ecuador is of US$ 40, in Colombia US$ 25 and in Peru US$ 15.

On the other hand, the capacity used by Ecuador for international telecommunications in 2005 was of 2.0 Gbps. In addition, a study of SENATEL projects that for 2010 this capacity would increase fifteen times up to 34 Gbps, but could also reach 66 Gbps, in case the country obtains a new submarine exit for Internet operators.
