Telmex seeks to acquire Boga Comunicaciones

Telmex is in process to acquire the cable TV operator Boga Comunicaciones, which commercializes the cable TV service, "Cable Express", in Lima and Chiclayo (Lambayeque), to more than 233,000 homes. According to the director of Telmex International, Óscar Von Hauske, the company’s objective is to strengthen its position within Peru`s residential market.

The executive underlined that through the acquisition of cable companies, in both Peru and Colombia, Telmex seeks to enter the triple play segment. In that way, Von Hauske indicated that they would try to merge the three cable companies that Telmex has in Colombia (TV Cable, Superview and Cablepacífico) and update its networks to offer triple play services this year in the country.

In Peru, the cable TV market is currently dominated by Telefónica Multimedia (Cable Mágico) with 413,526 clients through the end of 2006. At the closing of last year, Boga Comunicaciones added 17,884 clients, and the other two operators, DirecTV and Best Cable, slightly surpassed 3,300 and 2,500 clients, respectively. Von Hauske sustained that Telmex has invested some US$ 3 billion in markets it participates in throughout Latin America.
