Telmex, the biggest fixed telephone operator in Mexico reported a 38.4% increase in its net profits in 3Q-2007, compared to the same term in 2006. The figure reached US$ 859 million. Likewise, it reported revenues for US$ 4.442 billion, a 2.1% over those registered in 3Q-2006.
According to the operator, this result was impelled by the growth in Internet (8.7%) and corporate networks (6.2%). Nevertheless, during that period, there were 45,000 fixed lines disconnected. This is consequence of more competition and the increase in broadband services that, in some cases, substitutes conventional lines in the country. Moreover, the number of broadband clients increased by 296,000 accounts.
Furthermore, in the quarter, the consolidated net debt decreased by US$ 375 million, to US$ 7.172 billion and the accumulated investment reached US$ 1.204 billion.
