Fibralink Jamaica Limited- subsidiary of Columbus Communications - will invest US$ 80 million to expand its fiber-optic submarine cable, which runs from Jamaica to Cartagena (Colombia) via Florida. Richard Pardy, CEO of the company, said that out of the total investment, the cable laying to be carried out in Jamaica will cost US$ 10 million. In the first stage of the project which joined Jamaica with Florida via the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico invested US$ 43 million. Pardy said that the beginning of the 2nd stage will be carried out in the coming weeks.
