AT&T and Grupo Alfa definitely reject Axtel?s offer for Alestra

The sale of Alestra, headed by Rolando Zubirán, for Axtel  failed. According to rumors, the company offered some US$ 300 million but the proposal was not accepted. This decision would have generated the anger of AT&T authorities (which own 49% of Alestra), who want to leave the company. In June 2006, Grupo Alfa (main shareholder) and AT&T had made public that they aspired to obtain  an equivalent to eight times their EBITDA through the transaction, which would amount to US$ 600 million. For this reason, Grupo Alfa considered Axtel’s offer too low and decided to reject it.
