The brothers Jorge and Alfonso Nacer Gobera, owners of the University ICEL, have purchased the newspaper El Economista.  The transaction reached US$ 23 million, of which US$ 15.6 million will be paid in 15 months.

It is estimated that in 2008 the newspaper had a loss of some US$ 1.1 million due to falling advertising sales. The Newspaper prints some 40,000 copies daily, of which 90% are for subscribers.
