Telcel and Banamex customers to access to mobile banking services

As from 20th February, users of Telcel (América Móvil) and customers of Banamex will be able to carry out banking transactions from their cell phones through a text message (SMS) with the system Nipper. The Value added services and international roaming director of the telephony company, Marco Quatorze, said, during a conference, that users may consult balances and movements and make transfers and pay service bills through the mobile.

Payment system through cell phone, Nipper, became effective in August 2008,  with the participation of Telefónica de México and Iusacell together with banks Bancomer, Banca Mifel, HSBC, Banregio, Santander, Banco Del Bajío, Banco Azteca, Scotiabank, IXE Banco, Bansi, Banco Inbursa and Banamex.

CNDC objects to Telefónica-Telecom merger, raising legal and competition concerns

The agency states that "Telecom’s acquisition of Telefónica increases the likelihood that the acquiring company will abuse the resulting dominant position" in the retail markets for fixed and mobile telephony, broadband internet, and pay TV. It also raises concerns about a dominant position in the corporate and wholesale markets. Telecom has 15 days to respond.
