After a change of political orientation, on November 12 the Government issued a request for proposals to enter the mobile phone market so far monopolized by the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), owned by Cable & Wireless in partnership with the state. The intention is for a second actor to enter the market by April 2015. This announcement was joined to statements made by Leon Williams, CEO of BTC, who announced that in 2016 could deliver a third mobile phone license.
