According to the Second Quarterly Statistical Report 2015 drawn up by the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Telecom regulator), the telecommunications and broadcasting industry accounted for 3.3% of GDP between April and June. The GDP for the telecommunications sector reached US$26.773 billion, with a rise of 4.8% yoy, while the broadcasting sector reached US$1.047 billion, with a 16% increase yoy. Foreign direct investment in this period was US$ 5.419 billion, mainly driven by the acquisition of Nextel by AT&T, which took place last April.
