Mobiles win satellite operators two spectrum items

CITEL PCC II endorsed new provisions on the use of L and 3.4-3.7 GHz bands for IMT and regional harmonization thereof. The discussion on the 600 MHz band was placed on hold until the next meeting at the end of the year. In the 28GHz band dispute, the mobile industry begins to evaluate adjacent frequencies for 5G.

The meeting of the Permanent Consultative Committee II (PCC II) of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL) revived a new chapter of the controversies between mobile and satellite operators for more spectrum demand. During the meeting held in Orlando, United States last week, the committee of the OAS entity gave green light to new recommendations for the implementation of bands 1,427-1,518 MHz (band L) and 3, 4-3.7 GHz for IMT.
