Antel and its experience as a pioneer in 5G: the cost of the terminals threatens FWA overcrowding

A year and a half after the start of operations of the first 5G commercial case in Latin America, Natalia Pignataro, CTO of the state operator, announced the main results. At the Big Players Map Day 2020 virtual event, organized by Convergencialatina last week, she spoke about millimeter band tests for vertical applications, such as the Port of Montevideo and video surveillance cameras.

On April 9, 2019, Antel Uruguay was located in Latin America as the first operator with a commercial 5G network. As Natalia Pignataro, CTO of the state company, recalled at Big Players Map Day 2020, “the idea was to come with FWA to provide business services. It is a 5G Non StandAlone deployment, that is to say that we have 5G at the access level, but signaling and control are still by 4G”.
