The Edmodo educational platform surpasses 1.3 million active users in Latin America

Convergencialatina talked with Kate Baker, Edmodo’s Senior Manager of Community Relations, created in California in 2009. Activity on this platform multiplied 25 times after the outbreak of Covid-19. They aim to forge zero-rating agreements with operators in Latin America: the first of its kind was reached with Digicel in the Caribbean.

Edmodo was created in California in 2009 by Nic Borg and Jeff O'Hara, with the intention of creating a social space associated with education. Thus its visual interface is similar to that of social networks such as Facebook. As Kate Baker, Edmodo’s Senior Manager of Community Engagement, told Convergencialatina, the initial goal was to provide an online community. It is currently one of the communication and collaboration platforms with learning management functions (LMS) used for hybrid education, such as Google Classroom and Moodle, among others.
