New sub-river links in the heart of the Amazon

While the first months of operation arrive to see the impact of EllaLink on the Brazilian terrain, the Amazon region is experiencing its great moment of transformation at the level of connectivity infrastructure. The North Connected program, faced by the government, plans to install eight infovías: this will be one of the topics of debate at the Carriers Map Day event, organized by Convergencialatina on September 22.

Of the eight “infovías” planned, that is, sub-river cables to connect towns in the Amazon region, the only one currently being deployed is Infovía00, run by the Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP, in Portuguese), an entity linked to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Eduardo Grizendi, Director of Engineering and Operations, specified to Convergencialatina that the 769 km submarine laying will be completed by the end of the year, between Macapá, capital of the state of Amapá (northeast of Brazil), Almeirim, Monte Alegre, Santarém and Alenque.
