Lasso's first five months: ups and downs in telecommunication reforms

The president does not manage to get the National Assembly to discuss his bill on communication. But he did get a key reform that stimulates investment and prompted the rediscussion of Claro's and Movistar's license agreements with regulator Arcotel.

When Guillermo Lasso took office on May 24 as president of Ecuador, he included definitions on telecommunications among his main axes of government. When he appointed Vianna Maino as head of the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society, he stressed that "our mission is an open government and to achieve a 100% digital Ecuador".
