"Hollowing out" of Anatel disturbs Brazilian telecommunications market

The government's attack, with the violation of current laws and regulations, has put the sector on alert and raises a question mark over legal security. The government is seeking to manage millions of dollars in Anatel funds and give activity to Telebras at the expense of the private sector.

The Brazilian telecommunications sector began the week with the federal government's decision to transfer to the Ministry of Communications several of the prerogatives and functions that until then had been held by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), since its creation through the General Telecommunications Law (9472), passed in 1997.
