APIs: Telcos' alternative to not being tied to hyperscale players

Just over two years after the launch of the Open Gateway initiative, progress has been made in the development of applications related to finance and cybersecurity. As this progresses, API development requires agreements between operators and providers to standardize the connection with mobile networks.

The Open Gateway initiative celebrated its first two years. The GSMA-led project has developments primarily linked to the financial and cybersecurity areas. However, at the same time, it has given rise to new partnerships between mobile operators, seeking a way out of the monetization that 5G failed to deliver; and with players in that same value chain—manufacturers, par excellence—also eager for a piece of the pie.
