2018:definitivel year for fiber to the home

Government aim to reach 20% penetration of FTTH will require a private investment of more than US$1.050 billion in three years. It can be recovered in a short term ranging from 24 to 36 months, according to unofficial estimates by Arsat technicians. They consider a cost of US$300 per household in last mile per household; the value includes the CPE, the optical distributor, the fiber, the labor and the connection to the home.

Telephone companies argued for yearsthat the refusal to provide pay TV delayed the development of FTTH infrastructure. But Internet traffic in Argentina grew by 85% in the last year as a result of the increase of live streaming, movies and series on demand and OTT services. That increase should be enough as a convincing argument to invest in fiber networks to the home, in order to provide ultra-broadband connections in line with these needs and market demands, said Ariel Graizer, President of the Cámara Argentina de Internet (Cabase) (Argentine Internet Chamber). That, apart from other drivers such as the deployment of 4G and the future evolution to 5G and the growing takeoff of businesses linked to IoT.
