Cuba acquired 903,000 Telesur shares

The Instituto de Radio y Televisión de la República de Cuba became the new co-owner of Telesur network, after the acquisition of 903,000 shares through payment of US$ 475,000. The operation took place after the execution of the agreement between the Ministry of Communications and Information of Venezuela and Cuba, and it was settled in the shareholders' meeting on last August 31, minute of which was published in the Official Gazette number 39,282 of October 9. Shareholding structure of the channel is yet controlled by Venezuela, with 5,810,256 shares.

Additionally, the new managing board of Telesur added Juan Carlos Ortega, son of the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega. Andrés Izarra was ratified as president of the company, while the Brazilian Carlos Alberto Almeida and the President of Venezolana de Televisión, Yuri Pimentel, were appointed as independent directors of Strategic Board. As representatives of the partner countries, the following were named: Enrique Albistur (Argentina); Ovidio Cabrera (Cuba); María Simón, minister of Education from Uruguay; Johnny Delgado (Bolivia); and Fernando Alvarado (Ecuador).
