Visa announced purchase of the prepaid cards system Monedero, of the Grupo Roggio. With this acquisition, the credit card operator wants to grow in the micro-payments market.
Monedero was created by Roggio, dealer of the underground from Buenos Aires, so that users could purchase tickets. Then, the card was spread as method of payment in kiosks, cafés and even clubs and sport centers in the city.
Visa will offer two modalities for the Monedero card: TAG and Online, TAG is a Contactless chip that is refill through electronic methods of payments and it allows to make payments for small consumptions. The TAG is made of PVC and it could be acquired at any underground platform. Then, Monedero Online is a prepaid virtual account that allows operating from a mobile application or through the Web. Between September and October, banks will start to offer the product.
