ABTA 2013 - The arrival of OTTs will not disrupt the growth of pay TV

There will be changes in the market through the use of content and the levels of convergence achieved in recent years. Criticism to the Media Law in Argentina.

The market for subscription television would undergo changes based on the arrival of Over the Top (OTT) and other less relevant factors, such as content programmers would begin to exclude the operator and a higher incidence of these in the control of access to content. These, coupled with multiscreen options can be consolidated as factors that threaten the use of subscription television, but would not affect services, said Juan Vasquez, Vice President of Strategy at Liberty Global in the first panel of ABTA 2013, taking place in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Vásquez, who hinted that his company plans to approach the Brazilian market, said, entertainment offers on devices other than traditional TV can be viewed as a possible cause of the decline in use, but "88% of Latin Americans that watch TV in the living room", say television has a cultural standpoint compared to others devices.

Luis Mongini, CEO of Cablevisión Argentina, said the convergence of services in recent years was a revolutionary step toward better business development. He pointed out that the regional leadership of Telmex and Telefonica left little room for other operators and went against the Argentine government" for obstacles to the Law on Audiovisual Services", among which highlighted the lack of the need to access broadband and the increase in the digital divide, he later said.

Moreover, the official also pointed out that the so-called media law sought to control independent media by removing Grupo Clarín, but declined to give his views on the evolution of the regional market.
