Eutelsat renews Satmex?s projects

The new owners see opportunities for DTH in the region and prepare three launches between early 2015 and early 2016.

Although the Satmex brand is history, following its adhesion to the body and subsequent renaming as Eutelsat Americas, the executive structure and basic operational structure of the Mexican operator remains the same. For the buyer, the acquisition not only brought it new satellites and orbital points; it has also given the company a new customer base and primarily a large team of experts, with knowledge and experience in the territory. This Mexican structure is now the basis of Eutelsat’s operation in the Americas that now covers from Alaska to Patagonia.

The gobal operator  has entrusted this team the new operating phase, premiered with the entry of new customers.

"We have signed major contracts in Latin America showing our strength in video. For example, with the pay TV service Tigo Star of Millicom signed a multiyear DTH contract for the satellite Eutelsat 117 West A, former Satmex 8", said a source from the company to Convergencialatina.

In the market there are several questions that focus on the regional group which is now under a global umbrella; for example, what types of services will the new Eutelsat Americas focus on? Where does it see business opportunities in the region?

"There is a very important opportunity in Latin America for satellites to extend access of digital television and of high definition to homes beyond terrestrial networks. The 117 ° West may be emerging as a benchmark for television broadcasting in Latin America ", recognized officials at the headquarters in Mexico City.

Satellites previously operated by Satmex, are now operated by Eutelsat from the same teleports, of Hermosillo and Mexico City. Those three satellites: Eutelsat 113 West A, Eutelsat 115 West A and Eutelsat 117 West B will be doubled in the next 18 months.

The company confirmed launch plans to this media.

The Eutelsat-115 West B, in first quarter of 2015 will occupy 114.9 ° West orbital position. Will offer video, data, mobility and meet the demand of governments. It will cover the Galapagos and Easter Island.

The Eutelsat-117 West B, will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2015and  will share orbital position 116.8 ° West with Eutelsat 117 West A. The satellite will offer video and telecommunications to customers in Latin America and governments.

The Eutelsat 65 West A, will be launched in early 2016 and occupy the 65 ° West orbital position, will  meet the demand of video and broadband in Brazil and Latin America in general. It will have a tri-band: C and Ku for the distribution of video and Ka for access to broadband to meet the growing demand in the region.
