Almost two years after signing the renewal of mobile licenses, Telefónica in Peru indicated that it has expanded the cell phone service to 1,432 localities, higher than the planned target for the second year renewal of the concession signed with the Ministry of transport and Communications (MTC), which was 636 for the first year and 627 more for the second. In four years, it must communicate 2,327 locations and more than 2 million people.
The operator also reported that as part of its commitments, on November 2013 the social prepaid mobile rate went into effect, which is up to 50% cheaper, benefiting receptors of social programs and public servants working in rural areas. "To date there are more than 325,000 users with social rates, mainly in the regions of Cajamarca, Puno, Ayacucho and Piura," said Carlos Flores Ganoza, manager of the mobile concession of Telefónica del Peru.
From February 2015, the official said that the works to connect with fiber optics to the cities of Rioja and Moyobamba will be completed. Telefónica is also building a network to give Internet access to 559 public entities (schools, health centers and police stations) in 259 towns of Loreto and San Martín, project to be completed in March 2016.
