One of the first actions of Eduardo Neri González, who has been appointed interim president of the Paraguayan Communications Company (Copaco) for a period of 90 days, with the possibility to definitely keep the post once the deadline has been met, sent a memo to managers, assistant managers, internal auditors, legal counsel and heads of departments requesting that they put their positions at the disposal of the presidency "for the purpose of assisting in the implementation of administrative decisions to be taken in the company’s policy.”
Facing the discontent generated by this situation, González said it is standard procedure to take a position: "One thing is to make it available and another demand the resignation." Moreover, he reported that they continue in the process of assessing the situation of the company and would possibly take the first steps next week.
Another point taken by the head of the state telephone company was to cancel the wage increase ordered by his predecessor, Rogelio Benitez, to only 190 employees, before resigning, said José Medina, secretary of the National Union of Telecommunications Workers (Sinattel, for its Spanish acronym) who assumed that this issue delayed wage payments usually settled two days before the end of the month. The wage increase was between US$ 75 and US$ 243. The resolution was to enter into force last month.
Benítez said about Neri Gonzalez: "We know that he is studying the technical background and the background of each officer to appoint them, that guarantees that he will not appoint people with lawsuits," referring to Juan Francisco Godoy, who despite having several lawsuits against him was appointed by Rogelio Benítez in the technical management of Copaco.
