Prodigy and Esmas struggle for PC market

In order to boost Internet use, Prodigy and Esmas.com, units of Telmex and Televisa, are now struggling for the PC sales market. With low prices, in the case of Esmas, and extended funding facilities by Prodigy, both firms have devised an aggressive strategy for PC penetration.

 

Prodigy, Telmex ISP started selling PCs with in-built access some three years ago. To date, the firm has funded over 614,000 computers.

Foreign direct investment in digital tech jumped 36% in 2024

This was reported by ECLAC, which highlighted that Mexico and Brazil were the countries that received the most foreign direct investment (FDI) last year. The bulk of the funds was allocated to the software sector and aimed more at infrastructure deployment than at production.

Telefónica: The Latin American businesses dragged down its second-quarter results

While continuing operations (mainly in Europe and Brazil) posted a positive net result of 155 million euros, those in the Latin American region showed a negative result of 206 million. This was despite the fact that operations in the region showed growth across various segments.
