Latin American Satellite Congress 2016

SES and Star One agree on mobile backhaul to absorb huge satellite capacities

In the operators panel held this morning in Rio de Janeiro, Jurandir Pitsch, Business and Sales VP for Latin America South, and Lincoln Oliveira, General Director of Star One, stressed that support for 3G and 4G networks is consolidated in the satellite capacity demand. Pitsch noted that in the US market, "demand is such that satellites exclusive for the mobile business are being built".

Oliveira said that the Star One D1, scheduled for launch this year to the orbital position 84° West, will primarily cover the backhaul demand. "Current research on this demand does not measure it for the coming years", said the executive.

The Star One D1 also represents for the company of America Movi the first foray into the Ka band. "For us, the Ka band is a higher frequency that will open space for new services and requests. Barriers can be broken, and it will surely be the band that will absorb the sector innovations".
