Gilberto Kassab, Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC) announced yesterday during an event held by the Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Anatel) (Telecom regulator) that the disconnection of free to air analogue TV would occur at zero hour today in the Federal District and in the cities of Aguas Lindas de Goiás, Cidade Ocidental, Cristalina, Formosa, Luziânia, Novo Gama, Planaltina, Santo Antônio do Descoberto and Valparaíso de Goiás.
According to the president of Anatel, Juarez Quadros, the measure benefits 1,257,000 households, of which 947,000 are in the DF and 310,000 in neighboring cities. An information card will appear on analog TVs for a period of 30 days.
Mobile operators, meanwhile, expect the formal release of the 700 MHz frequency in Brasilia, which will be completely clean with the disconnection of two analog signals from the 25 TV stations, to quickly occupy it with 4G services in the DF.
