Telefónica to invest US$ 2,89 billion until 2019 to deploy fiber to the home and 4G, but maintains its claims to the government

The Spanish company ratified the investment plan for the next three years despite continuing legal and administrative actions –  including the possibility of resorting to the ICSID- to stop  Grupo Clarín’s entrance into mobile telephony through  Nextel.  Telefónica will concentrate its investment in 2017 in the deployment of fiber optics in the metropolitan area of ??Buenos Aires with the aim of reaching 600,000 homes, mainly in the municipalities of La Matanza and Quilmes.

At the same time, during their meeting in Madrid, company executives demanded that the president of Enacom, Miguel de Godoy, complete the cleaning of the 700 MHz band, sign the infrastructure sharing agreement (agreed during the previous government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner) to guarantee coverage obligations in remote areas, to grant Telefónica 2.5GHz spectrum, as the new legislation approved earlier this year establishes, and to include DTH as part of convergent services in the future law of the sector.
