WTO Ministerial Conference

The illusion of e-commerce as a democratizer of the economy

During the plenary session: "Trade at the crossroads of digitalization", specialists agreed that e-commerce generates opportunities for all citizens and that is why it is necessary to establish standards that facilitate its development. Steven Ciobo, Minister of Commerce, Tourism and Investment of Australia, said: the approach that should be given to electronic commerce should be multilateral and plurilateral. "Today 60% of traded goods have some basis in e-commerce, we must harmonize it," he said.
