Colombian Senate debates the political control of blockchain and cryptocurrency

Through an initiative of the Narino senator, Antonio Navarro Wolff (Green Alliance), in the Third Committee the debate was raised about the use of these new technologies for the digital economy. The senator pointed out that the blockchain could be used in the administration for the protection of rights, for the security of the Electoral System, intelligent contracting and the management of public services. Regarding the use of cryptocurrency, he explained that the transactions have a lower cost and would facilitate international transfers. Lastly, he asked the Ministry of Finance to implement and regulate them. In turn, the Financial Superintendent Jorge Castaño, said they are learning about the use of blockchain and created the INNOVA group to guide users. Juanita Rodríguez, vice minister of Digital Economy, emphasized the need to position this technology because it can prevent cyber-attacks.
