The Secretaría Nacional del Consumidor (Senacon) (National Consumer Secretariat), of the Ministerio de Justicia y Seguridad Pública (MJSP) (Ministry of Justice and Public Security), initiated an administrative procedure to investigate an apparent irregularity committed by TIM, referring to alleged data leaks through TIM Negocia service. The company could receive a fine of approximately US$ 2.4 million if the evidence is confirmed.
According to the Departamento de Protección y Protección del Consumidor (DPDC) (Department of Consumer Protection), the principles of vulnerability, transparency, trust, education, information, harmonization of interests and good faith were violated, as well as freedom of choice, adequate information, protection against abusive practices and prevention and effective damage repair. The incident may be due to a violation of TIM Negocia platform, which allows hackers to access personal data.
