AT&T returned spectrum that it had in the 800 MHz band in cellular regions 5 to 9 last year to the State, reported the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT, in Spanish). The cause of the return is the increase in the cost of duties. According to the regulatory body, the firm maintains its spectrum in the 800 MHz band in cell regions 1 to 4.
In 2019, Telefónica México began to return part of the spectrum it has, in a process that will end in 2022. To provide service in the country, the company of Spanish origin signed an agreement with AT&T to use its network.
