OneWeb reduces promised size for its constellation from 48,000 to 7,000 satellites

There are currently 110 devices in orbit. The company is committed to the first generation system - a fleet of 648 devices - and plans to begin offering commercial services within a year. In a document sent to the FCC last week, the firm adjusted the initial figures for the project.

Meanwhile, OneWeb secured an additional investment of US $ 400 million from Hughes Network Systems and SoftBank Group. Since March 2020, when the company entered US Chapter 11, it has raised $ 1.4 billion. Of the new total collected, the Financial Times (FT) specified that SoftBank contributed US $ 350 million and the rest came from Hughes Network Systems.
