Carriers Map Day 2022

Antel plans to install new PoPs in São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Fortaleza, the Argentine border and Santiago de Chile

Pablo Cuello, manager of the International Engineering Area of ??the Uruguayan state company, advanced the plans for the South American market during Carriers Map Day 2022, held yesterday by Convergencialatina. In the remainder of 2022 and 2023, Antel plans, in addition to the aforementioned points of presence, to deploy new backhaul routes in Brazil.

“In Argentina we will be adding a new link between Las Toninas and Buenos Aires. We are also working on other land routes to replicate the model of border routes that we face in Brazil, on the Coast, and from there to Buenos Aires,” he added.

The evolution of Uruguay in the construction of new networks has been driven by the country's inclusion in the submarine cable routes built from 2015 onwards. Federico Lozano, responsible for International Business Development at Antel, considered that with Tannat Uruguay's connectivity with the region improved and latency significantly decreased. "Added to Antel's data centers, it positions Uruguay as an attractive and enabling destination for the installation of CDN, gaming and Cloud providers that serve content in the region using Antel and Uruguay as a hub," he said.

Lozano explained that the increase in CDN providers in Uruguay generated a notable jump in traffic with Argentina. And he gave as an example the case of Geforce, which distributes content in the region from its presence in the Antel data center in Pando, near Montevideo.
