In second quarter draft of 5G tender to be presented

Within the framework of the "Digital Inclusion in Colombia" event, the ICT Minister, Sandra Urrutia, assured that there are nine companies that were interested in participating in the objective selection process that allows the massification of 5G: "In the second quarter we will present the draft of the auction process and we hope that by the third quarter the objective selection process can be presented. It is noteworthy that after the action plan was published, nine expressions of interest in participating in the auction were received.”

The companies that sent their expressions of interest are Tigo, Colombia WB Hots, Claro, EGC Colombia, ETB, Global Play, OSC Top Solutions Group, Movistar and WOM.

From the MinTIC they clarified that "the expressions of interest in the process to grant permits for the use of radioelectric spectrum are in the frequency bands of 700 MHz, 1,900 MHz, 2,500 MHz, 3,500 MHz and 26GHz for the operation and provision of land mobile services identified for International Mobile Telecommunications”, it pointed out.

Government analyzes partial privatization of Copaco

The state operator is going through a delicate moment. Its income does not cover operating expenses and it must fulfil a debt obligation of US$110 million. Furthermore, the lack of investments led to the obsolescence of its infrastructure. Oscar Stark, president of the firm, states that alternatives are being evaluated to obtain the necessary funds, including the possibility of adding private partners. And he believes that in 18 months "the situation will be resolved."
