Comptroller's office approved 5G contracts

The Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic yesterday ratified the six concession contracts for the use of the radio spectrum. The Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications received the official notification. This ratification validates the contracts signed by the Executive Branch with Claro CR Telecomunicaciones de Costa Rica S.A., Liberty Telecomunicaciones de Costa Rica LY S.A., Ring Centrales de Costa Rica S.A., Coopelesca R.L., CoopeGuanacaste R.L., and CoopeSantos R.L. These companies will be formally notified.

The contracts, signed on June 13, allow the concessionaires to begin the implementation of International Mobile Telecommunications, including 5G technology. The Comptroller General’s Office made the decision after reviewing the file and validating all stages of the public tender process.

Deputy Minister of Telecommunications Hubert Vargas stated: “With this ratification, the administrative phase concludes and we fully enter the execution phase — this is the starting point. Micitt must verify the concessionaires’ payments to the State and monitor compliance guarantees throughout the duration of the contracts.”
