Pacifictel will block calls from Linkotel customers

The state telephony has decided to block the user interconnections to the Linkotel network, a fixed telephony operator in Guayaquil, for the purpose of avoiding unwanted surcharges in its customer bills.  According to Pacifictel, its users that do not want to deactivate the interconnections should deliver an application to the company's customer service centers. A few weeks ago, Pacifictel determined to collect a surcharge of 1.28 cents on the dollar in Linkotel number communications, denying the measure by arguing that the interconnection charge could not be collected separately.

Facing this, Suptel has intervented in the conflict and called the attention to Pacifictel for having committed three infractions, and at that point opened an administrative trial process. On Pacifictel's end, it was indicated that the company will be forced to collect the rate starting from the Controller report presented September 30th, indicating that the company has had losses due to rate subsidizing.
