The telecommunications company and the Spanish bank have joined with the U.S. financial group (Citigroup) to extend its cell payment network to Mexico. The services offer in Aztec lands will be provided by Telefónica Móviles México through Bancomer (BBVA) and Banamex (Citigroup) as a test project starting in May. Mobipay also expects to offer pay services in Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia before year¿s end. The firm is controled by Telefónica Móviles and BBVA who within the last year acquired stakes in Vodafone (2%), Amena (7%) and Santander Central Hispano (27.5%) at Mobipay International. Similarly, the BBVA reported that it still maintains 5.73% in Telefónica. The Spanish financial entity obtained € 540.6 million for selling its stakes in industrial companies and although it eliminated its Telefónica stakes to enter into Bancomer (Mexico) it recovered control and returned to maintain 5.73% of the Spanish operator.
