At the Third Meeting of U4SSC, attendees discussed the progress made on the Initiative and approved a new work plan

Smart city experts from around globe came together to share their experiences in integrating smart technologies into the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of city development at the Third Meeting of the U4SSC Initiative which was held at the end of April in Malaga, Spain. The city of Pully (Switzerland), Bizerte (Tunisia), and Singapore all received a certificate for having successfully implemented the U4SSC Initiative's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for smart sustainable cities.

The Third meeting of the United for Smart Sustainable Cities Initiative took place in Malaga, Spain on 26 April 2018. This global platform for joint work on smart cities is coordinated by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and supported by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), UN Women – the United Nations agency for gender equality and women's empowerment, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Regional Office of Sciences for Latin American and the Caribbean of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations University Operating Unit on Policy-Driven Electronic Governance (UNU-EGOV) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
