A new mountainous fiber optic link between Argentina and Chile, linking Buenos Aires and Santiago, was inaugurated last Saturday at the foot of the Lanín volcano, at the Mamuil Malal border crossing (formerly Tromen).The work was executed by Silica Networks, which has a presence and activities in both countries, with an investment of US$ 8.5 million. Also participating was REUNA, the Chilean National University Network that leases the section between Santiago and Concepción and the Chilean firm Gigared, which made the laying from Freire to the border. In addition, the Cooperativa de San Martín de los Andes (Cotesma) of Argentina also played a significant role.
