Among other advances in the health system in times of pandemic, real-time monitoring of intensive care beds was achieved, thanks to a solution developed by the National Emergency System (SINAE, in Spanish) together with other actors in the sector.

On March 13, the first positive case of Covid-19 was registered in Uruguay, and since then, the work in digitization, specifically in telemedicine, has been strongly improved. "The pandemic radically changed the pace of adoption and began a new era of telehealth with a very relevant advance, incorporating specific regulations, such as Law 19,869, which defines the general guidelines for the implementation and development of telemedicine as a service provision", Rosario Berterretche, Salud.uy Medical Coordinator, recalled. The details of this state initiative, which promotes the intensive use of ICT in the health sector, were shared during a webinar organized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
