Arsat builds its footprint to provide services in C, Ku, HTS Ka in the Southern Cone and dynamic HTS Ku and Ka

Between 2026 and 2028, Argentina will have a fleet of four satellites in orbit with the availability of four products: C-band capacity, Ku-band capacity, dedicated HTS Ka beams in the countries of the Southern Cone, and dynamically assigned HTS Ku and Ka, according to customer needs.

Arsat's missions with the SG1 and SG2 satellites would make it possible to have, between 2026 and 2028, a fleet of four devices in orbit with the availability of four products: C-band capacity, Ku-band capacity, dedicated HTS Ka beams in the countries of the Southern Cone and HTS Ku and Ka assigned dynamically, according to customer needs. That is the future outlook outlined by Martín Fabris, Manager of Space Services at Arsat, in his presentation at Satellite Map Day 2022, held by Convergencialatina.

LEO, MEO and GEO open new business era

At Satellite Map Day it was made sufficiently clear that the orbits are complementary and that each user must find the combination that best suits their needs. In this search, the factors to take into account have variable weighting: budget, integration, support, expertise, among others.

The Government is working on the draft of a public consultation for S-band spectrum allocation

It will seek to gather stakeholders' opinions on the amount of MHz to allocate. Additionally, measures must be taken to prevent interference with mobile services, as both Telefónica and Telecom use parts of the S-band. This spectrum block is ideal for D2D services.

Two models for Direct-to-Device bid to reign in Earth-to-Space convergence

On one hand, there are systems operating over bands allocated to Mobile Satellite Services, such as those used by Viasat (L-band) and Omnispace (S-band). On the other hand, satellite operators transmit in spectrum allocated to terrestrial operators, a variation that requires significant regulatory changes and careful management to avoid interference.

SG-1 remains firm in Arsat plan and relocates in 2027

This was reported by Hugo Nahuys, manager of Space Services of the Argentine state company, during Satellite Map Day 2024. The new device will have 34 times more communications capacity than the Arsat-1. The manufacturing cost is equivalent to a third of what it would cost Arsat to rent capacity on a foreign satellite.
