Bolivia's difficulties in lithium exploitation

Despite the region's potential and the development of the Bolivian state-owned lithium company, the country has yet to industrialize the production of the vast reserves it possesses. The lack of knowledge and experience in the field hinder progress toward that goal.

Due to its concentration of lithium resources, Latin America has great potential to become a key player in the global lithium industry. However, its current performance falls far below that potential, as reflected in the low volume of raw materials and lithium compounds production and the high geographic concentration of such production in Chile and Argentina, while Bolivia possesses one of the largest global reserves of this mineral.
