Data center energy demand increased by 12% from 2017 to 2023

This was indicated in a joint report by the ITU and the WBA. There are relevant data points: 164 digital firms are responsible for 2.1% of global electricity consumption, and just 10 of them accounted for half of the total.

According to the latest edition of the Greening Digital Companies report by the ITU and the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA), electricity consumption by data centers grew by 12% annually between 2017 and 2023, four times faster than the global growth in electricity demand.
