Latin American Satellite Summit 2017

Hispasat to offer satellite Internet to the wholesale market

Sergio Chaves, business director of South America, confirmed to Convergencialatina that they plan to offer services with a similar model to that of HughesNet, but for the wholesale segment. "We see that the demand for satellite Internet is growing because it is becoming more accessible to people who could not afford it before, although it is still difficult to determine the size of that market," said Chaves at the 2017 Latin American Satellite Summit.

The executive stressed that they also plan to continue growing in DTH and that ultra-high definition, "although growth will not be fast because producing 4K content is not easy," will be the trend in the future. The demand for services, in turn, draws backhaul services capacity, another trend that is increasing and in which Hispasat will reinforce its strategy. Chaves also referred to the agreement signed with the Argentine company Boldt that will offer satellite Internet with the capacity of Amazonas-3.
