Liberty Networks CEO: “AI models are becoming commodities”

“Now the shift is moving toward infrastructure and data ownership,” Ray Collins said today at LINKS 2026 in Playa del Carmen, as covered by Convergencia. Regarding geopolitical realignment, the executive outlined the implications of AI control.

Ray Collins, senior vice president of Infrastructure and Corporate Strategy at Liberty Latin America (LLA) and CEO of Liberty Networks, outlined this transition at the opening of LINKS 2026, the company’s event in Playa del Carmen. “The convergence of AI and geopolitical realignment is reshaping the fundamentals of our business,” he said.

Inference costs are in the process of declining, Collins explained. In September 2024, the price per million tokens stood at US$28.90, while by August 2025 that figure had fallen to US$0.1.

“This means models are becoming commoditized. The shift is moving toward infrastructure and proprietary data. It is unique data, even more valuable than how that data is processed. LLMs are a tool for how to use that data,” Collins said.

Regarding geopolitical realignment, the executive stated that whoever controls AI will lead global power dynamics. “Over the past 30 years, the global economy has been dominated by the United States, and that is going to change. China, India, Asia, all trading among themselves, and a realignment of power, influence, and technology standards is expected. We will have to choose sides,” he warned.

Finally, Collins mentioned three milestones shaping the future of the industry: physical AI, the expansion of compute, and space as the new frontier.
